REGIONAL CONNECTOR LA METRO
Ahead of the Regional Connector launch in mid-2023, LA Metro asked us to create a series of animated explainers. The brief: break down new transfers, updated line names, and rider benefits in plain language. Each video needed to focus on a specific corridor, such as the East-to-West LA route, so commuters could quickly understand how the changes affect their trip.
THE CHALLENGE
With the opening date fast approaching, we needed several video versions that would still make sense after launch day. The focus wasn’t flash. It was delivering clear, accurate information that would stay useful over time.
THE PROCESS
We approached the project step-by-step. First, we wrote five scripts: one general overview and four route-specific guides. We then translated each into Spanish and Japanese to serve LA’s multilingual riders. Partnering with Down the Street Designs, we handled storyboards and animation together. When we noticed translations could change the voice-over length, we built the artwork with flexible timing, so every version flows smoothly no matter the language.
THE SOLUTION
Our flexible design system met Metro’s launch goals and left room for easy updates down the road. By aligning story, visuals, and multilingual delivery, we arrived at a clear solution that works for every rider.
THE DELIVERABLES
We produced five videos, each delivered in two versions: one stamped for launch day and one built to stay relevant long term. Every piece was also localized in Spanish and Japanese to reach more riders. Together, the animations turn a dense set of service updates into clear, rider-friendly guidance.
THE IMPACT
The finished guides gave Metro a clear, engaging way to walk riders through the updates. With straightforward visuals and multilingual versions, the series sets a practical example of how transit info can serve a diverse city. Most important, the videos make daily trips easier by turning complicated changes into easy-to-follow steps.
